Let the adventure begin
The beginning of September saw emotions run high, it was a challenging time filled with worry, anxiety and nervousness – and that was just me!
This is the start of capturing new adventures.
In case you missed the idea for this monthly update, it is time for new adventures as Daniel started secondary school. He was the only one from his old school that was going to this secondary school. Which meant he needed to make new friends and almost start again. I must admit, I was worried. It’s a lot to take in. Going to a new school that has 3 x the number of kids and kids 3 x bigger than him. I am pleased to say, we made it to the end of the month and he has settled in like a true star.
My next big concern was the bus. Daniel had to get on a bus and get home alone. However, here comes the occasional big sister. Abi travels to school with him and secured his place at the back of the bus. I understand this is a hierarchical thing, that takes years to get that golden place at the back. He owned it in the first week.
A few more testing things – a new morning routine. No more rolling out of bed at 8 for a quick shower and a walk to school. Oh no, earlier than that whilst 3 of us try and fight for the shower. Next – online dinner money. Mum top up = Daniel spend. No concept of how much things were. He managed to spend £10.00 in 2 days. His brain is processing the concept of timetables, finding his way around a giant school, homework, new teachers, new friends, where to get his bus, the list is endless. He has to also remember NOT TO LOSE ANYTHING. So September’s loss so far: drama top, pencil case, calculator and PE shorts. None of which have been recovered despite all being heavily labeled DANIEL JACKSON.
This could be an expensive year.
Fortunately, big sister managed to keep me posted on his progress. She even managed to sneak a picture of him in science. And almost busted him when “Daniel” appeared on the science teachers naughty board… fortunately, it wasn’t him. She looked out for him, that made my heart sing.
Both of them settling into important years helped settle my nerves. Here is to October!
